Engaging with journal articles

​Effectively finding and accessing professional knowledge (as deposited in books, journal articles, blogs, videos etc.) is a core aspect of research literacy. This module, Engaging with journal articles, focuses specifically on developing your confidence in reading articles that have been published in academic journals. The activities that make up this module will help you to access such publications, read them in strategic and purposeful ways, and make informed inferences about their trustworthiness.

What you will learn

When you have completed this module, you will be able to… 

  • Identify and utilize multiple access points to professional knowledge, including institutional subscriptions, open-access repositories, and academic networks.

  • Extract and synthesize key arguments, evidence, and themes from professional literature to support informed decision-making and practice.

  • Evaluate the trustworthiness of publications using critical appraisal techniques and established credibility criteria.
